Caregiving for Adult Pet Owners

Abstract The role of informal caregiver for an older adult is increasingly common. Research shows that there are many factors which shape the emotional experiences within this role. Unfortunately, the influence of the care recipient's pet has been largely overlooked. This chapter focuses on the impact a care recipient's pet may have on the caregiving experience, as well as the opportunities and issues that these pets may add to the caregiving experience.
