When Daily Employee-Organization Resource Exchanges Matter? Effects on Employee Functioning

This study focuses on perceived daily resource exchanges between employees and their organization. We examine how within-person variations in the pattern of this exchange explain daily well-being (exhaustion and physical symptoms) and work-related self-efficacy. Daily exchanges pertain to socio-emotional resources, namely care, services, recognition, and information. We also examine the moderating role of organizational monetary investments (i.e. a stable, contextual resource) on the relationship between daily employee resource investments and outcomes. Participants were 76 health care workers who completed a one-time questionnaire and a 10-day diary survey twice: at mid-shift and at the end of their shift. Our findings suggest that mutual high daily resource investments related to fewer physical symptoms and greater work-related self-efficacy.
