Survey and analysis of the factors associated with dental anxiety

Objective To evaluate related factors contributing to dental anxiety(DA)in patients for extraction the third molar and provide the prevention and control of DA for dental hygienists. Methods The prevalence of DA in 117 patients for extraction the third molar were investigated by using Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)and then statistic analysis was done. Results The incidence ratio of DA among 117 patients was 42.74%.DA was showed to correlate with gender and the complexity of surgery, however, age had no correlation with DA. Conclusions The prevalence of DA in patients for extraction the third molar is relatively high and its prevalence is positively correlated to gender and the complexity of surgery.
