Presentation. Music in the camps

2017
Music has been an important component of life in concentration camps, Nazi-led or other. Which kind of music was composed and executed, and what role did it exactly play in the camps? Was it a means of survival and resistance for the inmates, a way for them to express their hope and humanity – or, on the contrary, was it an instrument of terror exploited by the aggressors? Also, what is the function of music in the memory work following experiences of extreme violence and suffering? The current dossier sets out to explore these issues.
