Pertinencia de la retraducción de La Chatte de Colette

2020
A retranslation (a new translation of a given text, into the same language) becomes possible when enough time has passed to deem the previous one unacceptable. This study is based on Colette’s La Chatte (1933) and its two Spanish translations (1976 and 2008). Our study has been carried out based on a balance between the theoretical and the empirical approaches, encompassing the entire process involved in the work’s retranslation. In addition, we have set as the objectives of this paper to verify the relationship between both target texts, to elucidate the factors that motivated a new translation, to examine the different interpretations offered by a literary text, and, finally, to judge the expedience of a second translation. Once we carried out our qualitative and quantitative comparative analysis, we conclude that the retranslation constitutes an improvement with respect to the first one, because it updates the language and resolves some errors.
