A study of thin-shell models of electromagnetic diffraction by conducting and dielectric bodies

1995
A new method is proposed and formulated for solving the singular integral equations that describe electromagnetic diffraction by thin dielectric shells. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional problems from the theory of diffraction by dielectric shells located in nonuniform media with losses are discussed. Electrodynamic models of rf illumination of the earth during geophysical investigations of oil- and gas-bearing seams in sedimentary strata are analyzed numerically, and results are given.
