Abnormal expression and significance of the tumor suppressor gene p53 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma.

2010
Objective To study the expression and clinical significance of the tumor suppressor gene p53 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma.Method The expression of p53 protein in the cancer specimens and normal cervical tissue was examined by immunohistochemistical method..Results Expression of p53 was not detected in normal cervical tissue. The positive rate of expression was 58.46% in 65 samples of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. The expression rate of the p53 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma was significantly different from the normal tissue(P 0.05).The positive expression rate of the p53 was not correlated with the clinical stage and age(P0.05) of the patients. The expression of the p53 was significantly correlated with the degree of differentiation of the squamous cell and the local lymph node metastasis(P0.05).Conclusions The generation and development of the cervical cancer is correlated with the expression of p53.The expression of p53 can be considered as a reference index for the early diagnosis of cervical cancer, treatment and prognosis appraisal.
