Predictive analysis and modeling in healthcare systems

2021
Abstract Day-to-day operations in hospitals involve coordination between multiple entities (such as human beings, machines, computers, etc.). These entities work together to accomplish a task at hand. But most times, healthcare professionals do not get the actual execution model of the process, which, if available, could greatly help management/doctors get informed decisions to optimize the process. Information systems record tons of data of the actual process. This data could be used to model the process to know how the process actually got executed. The modeling process is based on recorded data that yield insights on how the process has gone. It will further assist healthcare professionals to identify discrepancies between how the process was planned and how it is being executed. This chapter gives an overview of the modeling of each of these perspectives of the healthcare operational process using modeling techniques available in process mining on event logs recorded in information systems.
