A MULTIDIMENSIONAL SCALING APPROACH TO HUMAN DEVELOPMENT CLASSIFICATION OF AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

In this study, Multidimensional Scaling Analysis has been used to classify African countries in terms of human development. Indicators of Human Development Index have been taken as independent variables of the model. The main goal of this research is to compare development groups and member countries obtained from Multidimensional Scaling Analysis to the development groups based on UN’s HDI rankings. Research findings showed that some African countries especially medium ones relocated due to the applied method. Then, it could be thought that Multidimensional Scaling Analysis represents another quantitative choice to classify countries.
