Development of a Computer Simulation Model for Shaping the Working Surface of a Worm Wheel with a Gear Cutting Tool with Modified Producing Surface

2021
Existing mathematical models for calculating worm gears are quite complex and do not always make it possible to quickly and accurately obtain the desired result. An easier way to find a suitable gear option that satisfies the task is to use computer simulation methods and computer graphics, in particular, solid-state modeling algorithms. Modern graphic packages of computer programs for three-dimensional geometric modeling (CAD) are used to solve problems of modeling real processes of design and operation of worm gear elements. This software allows you to create a virtual visual geometric environment similar to that in which the real technological process of shaping the surfaces used in profiling of the worm gear (worm cutter, disk cutter) takes place. Using modern systems of three-dimensional geometric modeling, the designer can change the geometric shape of the model of elements of the worm gear, change their geometric parameters, selecting the necessary parameters. The resulting solid-state model of the worm gear will be the virtual digital equivalent of a product that can actually be obtained on technological gear-processing equipment. At the same time, information about the product is stored in computer memory along with its mathematical description, which may include not only geometric information about the shape of the product, but also additional parameters necessary for the manufacture of this and similar products. Parameters embedded in the geometrical database of the worm gear model can be used to manufacture its parts on multi-axis CNC machines. The computer model of the worm gear will allow it to be used in the future for construction, as an assembly unit of a more complex engineering product.
