Friction Simulation Analysis of Finger Seal with Different Surfaces Texture

2021
As a kind of flexible seal, finger seal has the advantages of low leakage rate and long life, and is widely used in aero-engine, automobile engine and other sealing fields. Surface texture is a new technology to apply non-smooth surfaces to the frictional subsets of relatively moving mechanical parts to improve the tribological performance. In this paper, finite element analysis software ABAQUS is used to simulate the friction between fingertip seals and rotors with different surface textures. The results show that among several micro-slot surface textures, the equivalent stress value of the herringbone groove is relatively low (5.78 MPa), that of vertical micro-slot is large (20.04 MPa), and that of transverse micro-slot is the largest (23.72 MPa); among several micro-hole surface textures, the equivalent force values of triangular and hexagonal are low (about 10 MPa), and that of circular micro-hole texture is relatively large (17.14 MPa), and the elliptical microporous texture has the largest equivalent stress value (21.04 MPa). The higher the equivalent stress value, the more severe the wear. In the design of the fingertip seal surface texture, the surface textures with the smaller equivalent stress value should be selected first.
