PARAMAGNETIC ORBITAL SUSCEPTIBILITIES OF TRANSITION METALS.

The results of numerical calculations of the paramagnetic contribution, χ, to the magnetic susceptibility associated with the orbital motion of electrons in unhybridized tightly bound d-bands are presented. These results are used to determine approximately the dependence of χ on the number of electrons in the band and on the d-band width, and to estimate χ. for a number of transition metals. The results obtained are in good agreement with estimates obtained from experimental data. The effect of conduction band-d-band hybridization on χ is also considered. Es werden die Resultate numerischer Berechnungen des paramagnetischen Beitrages χ, zur magnetischen Suszeptibilitat, die mit der Bahnbewegung der Elektronen in unhybridisierten, stark gebundenen d-Bandern verknupft ist, gegeben. Diese Resultate werden benutzt, um die Abhangigkeit von χ von der Zahl der Elektronen im Band und der d-Bandbreite angenahert zu bestimmen und um χ fur eine Anzahl von Ubergangs-metallen abzuschatzen. Die Resultate stimmen gut mit den experimentellen Werten uberein. Der Einflus von Leitungsband-d-Band-Hybridisierung auf χ wird ebenfalls betrachtet.
