Production of lube stocks from low-sulfur West Siberian crudes

1988
The bulk raw material for the production of different types of lube oils is medium-sulfur mixed West Siberian crudes. However, till recently, a significant portion of the lube oils, particularly those used in power engineering [turbine and transformer oils] was traditionally refined from low-sulfur crudes of the Fergano-Turkmen, Volgograd, and Stavropol'-Dagestan regions. The diminishing production of these crudes has led to a decrease in the output of lube oils with less than 0.5% sulfur by weight.
