Manifestaciones gastrointestinales en niños con trastorno de espectro autista

2015
Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder is a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral problems. It has a prevalence of approximately 1% of the population. Currently, it has been proved that there is an abnormal brain development, with a complex interaction between genetic predisposition and environmental factors. Objective: Since there is a higher incidence of TEA in the world, pediatricians should have knowledge of the gastrointestinal pathology in these patients. The most common gastrointestinal manifestations reported in various series are flatulence (60%), bloating (37%) and abdominal pain (37%). Conclusions: Knowing the most common gastrointestinal problems in this group of patients allows an appropriate and timely treatment, often improving the intensity of the behavioral disorders in some of these patients.
