Inspection and repair of Lake Maracaibo Bridge suspension cables

The wire ropes of the General Rafael Urdaneta Bridge, which spans lake Maracaibo in Venezuela, were inspected to determine the tension on the cables, the condition of the coating system, and the factors that have affected their performance. This article describes the preparation of recoating specifications and the procedure to retension the cables.
