De‐excitation of muonic molecules by internal conversion

2008
The most effective process for effecting de−excitation of the muonic molecule, tdμ, is internal conversion : the excitation energy is carried away by one of the molecular electrons. Using previously calculated wave functions for all the J=0 and J=1 states of the muonic molecular ions we have calculated the transition rates for internal conversion. Also, we have made the first variational calculation of the J=2 wave function of the tdμ ion, obtaining a binding energy of 101.59 eV. (AIP)
