On energy efficiency-related product strategies—illustrated and analysed using contracting approaches in Germany as an example

1997
Abstract In the recent past, various organizational and financial forms have evolved in conjunction with developments in energy-service packages. These so-called contracting-models mainly cover energy-generation facilities and technology for greater energy efficiency. Contracting revolves around a third party, the contractor, who assumes responsibility for generating useful energy and/or improving efficiency in covering energy demand for consumers. This article discusses the possible approaches with respect to contracting, the demand and the supply side of the market as well as the problems and limitations of this concept. Moreover, it will present concrete examples of contracting in Germany and analyse the further development of contracting with respect to the realization of investments saving useful energy, i.e. implementing performance contracting projects.
