CO2 capture by MOFs

2021
Abstract Green synthesis methods have gained great importance in recent years as they may contribute to lower the adverse effects caused by anthropogenic activities involving the use of traditional, pollutant chemicals. In this chapter, we present an extensive review on the different green synthetic methodologies reported in the literature for the preparation of metal-organic frameworks (MOF) such as microwave-assisted synthesis, hydrothermal or mechanosynthetical methods, mechanosynthesis methods. A comparison among the different methodologies, as well as a discussion of the impact of the preparation technique on the morphological and structural properties of the produced materials is included. A special emphasis is given on the material properties that favor the increase in the selectivity and sorption capacity of carbon dioxide (CO2) in order to offer a selection of those MOFs whose preparation is not only friendly to the environment, but also it may help with of withdrawing gases from the atmosphere.
