Measurement of Diameter and Sphericity for TRISO-coated Fuel Particles

In this project, TRISO-coated fuel particles for HTGR are being analyzed in the round robin test for the IAEA CRP-6 program(Coordinated Research Project on Conservation and Application of High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor Technology : Advances in HTGR Fuel Technology). Samples for testing were supplied by KAERI in Korea, B and W and ORNL in USA and PBMR in South Africa. Diameter and sphericity were measured for the simulated TRISO-coated fuel particles for the HTGR. In this experiment, the diameter of the TRISO-coated particles was measured by 4 methods, PSA(particle size analyzer), micrometer, X-ray and optical microscope. The sphericity of the coated particles was measured by 3 methods, PSA, X-ray and optical microscope. The experimental results were analyzed.
