Thermo- and mechano- electret effects in lithium tantalate crystals

Abstract The nondestructive and reversible formation of electrooptical inhomo-genuities in Y-cut lithium tantalate plates undergoing fast cooling or influence of local elastic stress has been investigated. The behaviour of charges within near-surface layer inherent in both phenomena resembles the features of electret states.
