Determinants of students’ performance in accounting programmes

2014
The increasing demand for accounting education and the need to use university resources optimally have led to an increasing interest in the determinants of students’ performance in accounting programmes (Byrne & Flood, 2008). Understanding these determinants also has implications for teaching performance and modifications in teaching styles (Guney, 2009). In addition, information on the determinants of academic success is useful to potential students in deciding their tertiary education and career choices (Tickell & Smyrnios, 2005). Consistent with the call for more research into the determinants of students’ performance in accounting pro - grammes (Bonaci et al., 2010), this chapter provides a critical review of the literature and suggests possible directions for future research in the area.
