Application of platelet leukocyte rich gel in in vitro cultured autologous keratinocyte grafts

2011
Introduction. Skin wounds oftentimes require alternative therapeutic methods. Aim of the work. One of the common methods involves the use of PRP (platelet-rich plasma), while the procedure we propose consists in the combination of the said plasma concentrate with keratinocytes cultured in in vitro settings. Material and methods. An autologous keratinocyte culture allows for a proliferation of these cells sufficient to cover burn wounds. Results. By virtue of the said method the wound may be closed and epidermization is accelerated. Conclusions. The mechanism behind effective wound healing process is probably determined by the presence of growth factors in the platelet leukocyte rich gel - (PLRG). An alternative keratinocyte graft method is to culture a cell sheet (pseudoepidermis) by means of thermoresponsive biopolymers.
