Deconfined matter and Λ0 polarization in ultra‐relativistic heavy‐ion collision

2002
Polarization of Λ0’s produced in ultra‐relativistic heavy‐ion collisions has been calculated and the results compared to the polarization observed in proton‐proton collisions and studied as a signal for the production of deconfined matter. The Λ0’s produced in this environment come from two different regions within the interaction zone, in the first one, where the density of participants in the collision is larger than a certain critical density, quarks are free and the Λ0’s are produced unpolarized. The second zone, where the density is below a certain critical density, Λ0’s are produced polarized. In the model we also incorporate the effects from multiple scattering within the nuclear environment.
