Miscellaneous Disorders: Pregnancy-Associated Liver Disorders, Vascular Disorders, Granulomatous Diseases, and Amyloidosis

2017
This chapter discusses miscellaneous hepatic disorders including pregnancy-associated liver disorders, vascular disorders of the liver, granulomatous diseases of the liver, and hepatic amyloidosis. This chapter reviews the normal physiologically adaptive changes that occur during pregnancy and the subsequent changes in the liver biochemical profile. Liver diseases unique to pregnancy are one of five liver disorders—hyperemesis gravidarium (HG), intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, and acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP). This chapter also discusses the epidemiology, pathogenesis, radiographic findings, diagnosis, and the treatment of various vascular disorders affecting the liver, namely portal vein thrombosis, Budd-Chiari syndrome, and sinusoidal occlusive syndrome. This chapter also reviews the incidence, etiology, and pertinent clinical and laboratory findings of various granulomatous liver diseases and explains the indications for treatment. This chapter concludes by explaining the etiologies, clinical and laboratory findings, management, and outcomes of hepatic amyloidosis.
