Bose-Einstein Condensates: Experiments

In this chapter we give an overview of the setup used for the experimental investigations presented in this book, with a special emphasis on the imaging system, which will later play a central role. Moreover, we summarize the procedures adopted for the preparation and characterization of BECs, presenting the tools for the manipulation of their internal and external degrees of freedom, together with measurements of their phase coherence.
