Clinical complications arising from overlapping of adjacent radiation fields--physical and technical considerations.

1977
The problem of overlapping of adjacent radiation fields is a frequent one, but often glossed over. In this paper, we analyze a number of techniques for field approximation and separation. Failure to use these techniques can result in severe clinical complications. An extraordinary case study is documented, consisting of both esophageal stenosis and radiation myelitis, both apparently caused by overlapping adjacent fields.
