La Cappella di Sant'Aquilino a Milano: analisi degli interventi di restauro novecenteschi e loro influsso sulle condizioni microclimatiche

2004
The paper recalls the restoration works carried out by Ambrogio Annoni and Gino Chierici on the Cappella di Sant'Aquilino. The study aims to evaluate and detect the historic building's changes in microclimate due to the implementation of various modifications. The changes provide visual and partial physical access to the hypogeum, permanent physical access to the foundations, and introduced new materials, such as reinforced concrete and a humidity control system (Knapen tubes) in specific walls. The study comprised materials analysis, the identification of deterioration mechanisms, and an extensive microclimatic survey (thermographic and psychrometric measurements and environmental probes positioned at different levels of the building). In conclusion, the results confirmed the hypothesized damage caused by Annoni's intervention and the worsening of these by Chierici's successive modifications, although the concrete structure was found to be in a good state of conservation.
