The Fries Rearrangement of bz-Benzoyloxybenzofuran Derivatives and the Synthesis of the Furo Derivatives of 4-Phenyl-2H-chromen-2-one

The Fries rearrangement of 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-benzoyloxy-2,3-dimethylbenzofurans gave exclusively or mainly the corresponding o-hydroxy ketones, which were converted to the dimethylfuro derivatives of 4-phenyl-2H-chromen-2-one.
