What are the distributive impacts of environmental policies
2020
Environmental policies—taxes, standards, quotas, or subsidies—aim to reduce emissions. Hence, they directly or indirectly contribute to increasing energy prices. As this price increase mainly affects the poorest, such measures are said to be inequitable and regressive. Environmental policies must compensate vulnerable households for the transition to be socially acceptable.
