A method for filtering and removing odors from indoor air by means of filter materials, characterized, that a stream of air to be cleaned through a first einlagerndes filter material (6) is passed, placed in the smell molecules of the indoor air and partially contained in the indoor air, water vapor is partially embedded, that the air stream is then passed through a second depleting filter material (9), in the odor molecules contained in the air stream are chemically degraded by oxidation, wherein the first intercalation filter material (6) and the second depleting filter material (9) by a gap (7) are spaced apart, wherein the first intercalation filter material (6) intercalates as a buffer store of water vapor so that the water vapor content does not exceed a limit value of the air humidity in the subsequent second-depleting filter material (9), and that the method is performed in a follow-up operation for supply of the air stream with a reduced water vapor content until the water vapor content in the first filter material (6) is lowered again to its original value.
