Emerging Theragnostic Metal-Based Nanomaterials to Combat Cancer

In defiance of substantial progress in the production of a broad range of cancer delivery systems based on nanocarriers remain unattached to many prevailing problems, such as the aggressive battle against cancer multidrug resistance (MDR) and the low penetration efficiency of the supply systems. In recent years, the production of new metal-based nanomaterials and their use in biomedicine has received considerable attention. Important progress has been made as metal-based nanomaterials with regulated geometry, physicochemical characteristics and surface load, and bioactive polymers have been synthesised. These fruitful activities have led to greater biocompatibility and an active focus on a tumour tissue, which has led to the development of a variety of nanomaterials that can diagnose cancers, supply anticancer medicines and kill tumours through a number of therapeutic procedures. This book chapter is intended to provide an overview of the metal-based nanomaterials developed to identify and treat different forms of cancer and to illustrate the emergent possibilities for metal-based nanomaterials used in anticancer treatment.
