Behavioural changes concerning the parity limitation problem in rural Spain: La Maragateria

La Maragateria is a well defined region, both culturally and geographically, located in NW Spain. The population, mainly rural has suffered two large migratory waves, one at the beginning of the century and the other in the sixties. We analyze, in a sample of 731 families, the family structure and other aspects of reproductive behaviour concerning the parity limitation problem, to illustrate behavioural changes which were taking place in rural Spain as late as 1973.
