π‐p Interactions at 200 GeV/c

Preliminary results give an average multiplicity of 8.0±.17 and a total cross section of 24.0±.5. We find that approximately 20% of the 4‐prong events fit the hypothesis π−p⇒pπ−π+π− and that essentially all of these are either beam diffraction into π−π+π− or target diffraction into pπ+π−.
