RELATION BETWEEN THE PLAGUE BACILLUS AND THE BACILLUS PSEUDO-TUBERCULOSIS OF RODENTS,

Abstract : The bubonic plague bacillus and the bacillus of pseudotuberculosis of rodents are so similar in their characteristics that it is often most difficult to identify them through culture on artificial media and by means of bio-chemical reactions. On the other hand, while their virulance towards the rat is different, they have certain common antigens, which are detectable in vitro and in vivo: the anti-plague serum precipitates, albeit unequally, the filtrates of their cultures; the sterilized emulsions of the Coccabacillus (coccabacteria) of Malassez and Vignal vaccinate the guinea-pig against pseudotuberculosis and against the plague (MacConkey). The research undertaken on the subject generally confirms those observations. (Author)
