Effect of copper pollution on the growth and physiological characters of tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum L.)

2014
A solution culture experiment was conducted to study the effects of different copper concentration(0.0,0.5,1.0,2.0,4.0,8.0 mg/L) on the growth characteristic, root activity, membrane permeability and antioxidant system of two tobacco cultivars,Nicotiana W38( Cu resistance genotype) and Nicotiana benthamiana(Cu sensitive genotype). The results showed that: with increasing concentration of copper processing, root length, plant height, fresh weight, root activity, catalase(CAT),superoxide dismutase(SOD)and catalase(POD) of two tobacco cultivars were increased firstly and then decreased. The values of membrane permeability were decreased firstly and then increased. It showed that low concentrations of copper stimulated the growth of tobaccos, while high concentrations of copper inhibited tobaccos' growth. With the in-crease of the concentration of copper processing, the content of proline( Pro) and malondialdehyde( MDA)showed a rising tendency.
