Feasibility Study on Deceleration Barrier of Energy-Absorbing by Pipe Deformation

One type of deceleration barrier is designed with a energy-absorbing steel pipe settled along the beam of combined barrier,which is suitable for continuous-growth downhill sections at Ya-Lu Expressway.The results of computer simulations show that while vehicles impact with deceleration barrier and press the steel pipe,running speed is effectively reduced.During the course kinetic energy of vehicle is turned into internal energy of energy-absorbing pipe.Energy-absorbing pipe can help to reduce the maximum dynamic deflection and deformation range of combined barrier,which is conducive to the maintenance of combined barrier after impact.The perfor-mance of the energy-absorbing steel pipe can meet the design requirements.
