Magnetic anisotropy in single‐crystal nickel films electrodeposited on a (110) copper‐nickel crystal surface

Single‐crystal nickel films were electrodeposited onto the (110) surface of single‐crystal copper‐nickel substrates containing from 0 to 12 wt% nickel, and the magnetic anisotropy of the nickel films was measured. Uniaxial anisotropy was observed in addition to the normal magnetocrystalline anisotropy, and the uniaxial anisotropy constant was observed to decrease with the increase of nickel concentration in the substrate; that is, the uniaxial anisotropy of the film is found to be affected by the lattice constants of the substrate.
