Waxy wheat production by haploid plant production

In this study, cross was made from Knato 107 and Baihuomai. The F_1 was used for haploid plant production by maize pollen. 50 DH lines were gained by culchicine treatment of those haploid plants. Endosperm from six DH lines was stained brown after I_2 - KI staining. The same six DH lines were null waxy gene lines proved by SDS - PAGE. Both methods showed to be reliable and accurate in wheat detection. In this study, plant characters, such as plant hieght, spike number pre plant, seed weight and seed hardness etc. was also analyzed. Waxy wheat is suitable for making noodles because its dough has high amylopectin, high peak-viscosity and high swelling volume. Amylopectin has been widely used in light industries, medicines etc. Therefore, the production of waxy wheat is a new route to wheat quality study and application of amylopectin.
