A bilingual teaching method combined with drilling robot for mechatronics course

2016
With the rapid development of intelligent robotic technologies and applications in the world, persons with ability in mechatronics are required. Aiming to improve the comprehensive capabilities and skills both in mechatronics and English, this paper presents a teaching method of combining project-based mechatronics teaching with bilingual teaching for graduates majored in mechanical engineering in Beihang University. Based on an intelligent drilling end-effector, the course is divided into two parts: the teacher-first part which includes theoretical knowledge teaching and interaction in class, and the students-first part that contains design tasks including prototype, algorithm, analysis, simulation and experiments, as well as final presentation. A comparison of attitude adjustment algorithm and common algorithm attracts students' attention to the necessary of mechatronics. Besides, a complicated evaluation system is established. The result shows that students' ability has been improved. After years practice and exploration, the teaching method turns out to be a successful one.
