Chemical engineering of protein cages and nanoparticles for pharmaceutical applications

2020
Abstract Protein chemical modification is one of the essential tools in protein modifications. Many chemical methods have been developed to impart new functionalities to the protein surface through the reactivity and selectivity of amino acid side chains. Various chemical reactions are available for both biologists and chemists for the chemical and genetic engineering of proteins. This chapter explores the different chemical reactions that are accessible for selective protein modification and targeting methods of nanoparticles (NPs). In addition, it explores some of their main applications in pharmaceutical nanotechnology.
