The Correlation between Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and Curative Results of Nasal Polyp Operation

Objective:To study the relationship between expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in nasal polyp cells and the curative results of nasl polyp operation. Method: Nasal polyp removing and ostium opening operations were carried out on 40 patients with nasal polyps(totally 58 sides were operated) by using nasal endoscope.The removed tissues were fixed,paraffin imbedded,and cut to sections.Maxivision immunohistochemistry staining was adopted to check the expression of VEGF.Correlation analyses were performed on the curative results and the expression of VEGF.Results: The strongly positive expression of VEGF accompanied weaker curative results and higher relapse rate,and the highest expression accompanied the highest relapse rate(r=0.518).Conclusion: The degree of VEGF expression in nasal polyp might be used as an index for the prognosis of nasal polyps after surgery.
