El desarrollo sustentable: reflexiones sobre su alcance conceptual y medición

espanolLos principales objetivos de este trabajo son ilustrar las ambiguedades y extensos debates en torno a las definiciones conceptuales y operativas de desarrollo sustentable. Nuestro analisis concluye que la fuerte vinculacion del concepto de desarrollo sustentable a la arena politica y normativa lleva a la natural consecuencia de que a la hora de precisar que significa y como debe medirse dicho concepto existan mas disensos que consensos. Pese a la existencia de fuertes debates,, creemos posible (y concluimos sugiriendo) la generacion de una definicion minima de desarrollo sustentable a fin de favorecer una mayor acumulacion en esta areea multidisciplinaria de investigacion cientifica. EnglishThe main purpose of this work is to analyze the ambiguities and long discussions associated with the concept of sustainable development and its measurement. We conclude that the strong link between this concept and the political and normative arena, has frustrated the attempts to precise what it means and how it should be measured. In spite these strong debates and lack of consensus, we think that it is possible to create a minimal definition of sustainable development (and we in fact suggest one) in order to be able to accumulate on this multidisciplinary research area
