An Aerodynamic load tracking method for electric tail rotor of helicopter

In this paper, an electric propulsion system using high power-density permanent magnet motor for helicopter’s tail rotor is introduced. Electric tail rotor(ETR) demands to provide synchronous power under the continuous adjustment of pitch angle and sudden-changing aerodynamic disturbance, thus the Liner Extended State Observer (LESO) is used to estimate the fluctuation of drive system, and a Pitch Angle Estimator (PAE) for tail rotor is also designed to tune the bandwidth of LESO. The proposed method has been verified on simulation platform and results show that the propulsion system achieves fast dynamic response and disturbance rejection to different aerodynamic conditions, which makes it applicable to other electrical devices with large-scale varying load.
