Study on the Luminescence Property of Samarium Ion in Bis(benzoylmethyl) Sulfoxide System

2009
The solid complex of light rare earth samarium perchlorate with bis(benzoylmethyl) sulfoxide(L) has been synthesized and characterized by molar conductivity, elemental analysis and coordination titration. The composition of the complex was suggested as SmL5(ClO4)3·3H2O(L=C6H5COCH2SOCH2COC6H5).IR spectra studies indicated that bis(benzoylmethyl) sulfoxide(L) coordinated with Sm3+ by the oxygen atom in sulfinyl group while the oxygen atom in carbonyl group did not.Phosphorescent spectrum of ligand and fluorescence spectra of complex demonstrated that the ligand has sensitization effect on the fluorescence of Sm3+.Additionally,we have also discussed energy transfer and the luminescent mechanism of Sm3+ complex.
