Characterization of copolymers of n,n-dimethylacrylamide with methyl methacrylate prepared by charge transfer mechanism

Abstract Copolymers of methyl methacrylate with N , N -dimethylacrylamide were synthesized by a charge transfer mechanism using a mixture of n -butylamine and carbon tetrachloride as initiator in dimethyl-sulphoxide at 60°. The compositions of the copolymers were established by elemental analysis. The reactivity ratios were determined by both Fineman-Ross and Kelen-Tudos methods. The copolymers were characterized by i.r, 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR and thermal studies. The solubility parameter of the copolymer was evaluated by studying the intrinsic viscosity in various solvents.
