Importance of calibration for shielding effectiveness measuring purposes

2019
This paper deals with the measurement of shielding effectiveness. The paper discusses two experiments. The first experiment was aimed at measuring shielding effectiveness, that forms the basis for the second experiment. The observed frequency spectrum was ranged from 1 GHz to 7 GHz. The second experiment was focused on the need for calibration to measure shielding effectiveness. Twenty different arrangements of the receiving and transmitting antenna were created in order for the workplace to be not correctly calibrated. Shielding effectiveness was measured for 6 different antenna arrangements. These results were compared with the results in the first experiment. The measurements were carried out in an anechoic chamber to avoid external influences. The method for measuring shielding effectiveness is comparative and therefore the accuracy of the calibration does not play such a significant role.
