A pharmacoeconomic analysis of preventive medication applied against clinical infection in 138 orthopaedic patients

2004
Objective To investigate the curative effect along with the resulting economic effect of preventive medication applied against clinical infection after orthopaedic surgery. Methods Different orthopaedic surgeries were divided into 6 groups stochastically and received different therapeutic schemes. No infection signs were found in the analogous wounds before the surgical management. We observed the therapeutic results after surgeries and assessed such results with cost effectiveness analysis(CEA).Results It was noted that the value of cost/effectiveness(C/E) of penicillin G Na was far more less than that of the other therapeutic groups when it was applyed as prevalent drug against clinical infection in orthopaedics. Conclusion There was no statistical significance in the difference of curative effects among the therapeutic groups. Therefore,in these 6 therapeutic schemes, penicillin was the optimal choose, followed by penicillin, ofloxacin, cefradine sodium, cefuroxime sodium, recophin.
