NK blocker, did not affect the onand off-contractions. Thus, the rebound excitation could be due to consistent membrane hyperpolarization to recover from inactivation of Ca2+ channels or NO-related mechanism. In currentclamp experiments in colonic smooth muscle cells membrane hyperpolarization did not evoke the rebound depolarization. Conclusions: Our data suggest that rebound depolarization have a direct relation with off-contraction that could be due to NO-related mechanism but not membrane hyperpolarization. Since NO affects the release of calcium from intracellular stores, we presented the possible mechanisms in other presentation. (supported by NIDDK 41315).
