Structure and luminescence of the monoclinic LnWO4Cl-type rare earth halo tungstates

Abstract GdWO 4 Cl is representative of a series of LnWO 4 Cl compounds where Ln can also be: Eu, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm and Y. These compounds crystallize in monoclinic C2/m symmetry, and the structure has been refined to R = 5.0% for GdWO 4 Cl. Luminescing ions such as Eu +3 and Tb +3 have been incorporated into GdWO 4 Cl and a Raman spectrum was recorded.
