Treatment of supracondylar fracture of humerus in children using manipulative reduction combined with assembly external fixator

2009
Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of manipulative reduction combined with assembly external fixator in the treatment for supracondylar fracture of humerus in children. Methods 36 cases of supracondylar fracture of humerus in children were treated by manipulative reduction combined with assembly external fixator during September 2006 to September 2009.Two pieces of screw nails were screwed in the dorsal aspect of the lower section of humerus and the proximal ulna for each child. As the reduction of fracture been confirmed by C-arm image intensifier after manipulation, the external fixators were connected thereafter. Results All of the 36 cases were received thehospital-acquired disease follow-ups which revealed that there were no complications such as infection, rupture and loosening of the nails.80.56% of the patients were reported to have outcome scores that qualify as either good or excellent according to Flynn standard. Conclusions Manipulative reduction with assembly external fixator is an effective way for the treatment of supracondylar fracture of humerus in Children
